The Kalimantan Forest Fires: An Actor Analysis Based on Supreme Court Documents in Indonesia

Forest fires in Indonesia are of a local, national, and global concern, which is why the activities local actors have emerged as new problem Indonesia, especially Kalimantan. The current study employed network content analysis method to examine involvement forest fire cases based on Supreme Court decisions, complemented by several reputable online news sources such kompas.com, detik.com, tribun.com. By examining cases, involved were able be identified key actors, contest setters, subject actors. Key referring companies landowners, found high correlations between one another. Moreover, observed providing funds for land clearing or burning, yet they remained legally untouchable. Meanwhile, setters—permanent employees—were most burning/clearing, often convicted rulings merely commoners, farmers, jobseekers need cash. Nevertheless, i.e., farm workers, seen weak relationship with rulings, particularly terms burning its operational funding.
